Tips & Tricks

My plan with this page was originally to publish the tips and tricks I have collected during the last years. I have changed this idea, most of all because there is so many sites out there doing the same, and with much more information than I will ever be able to write. The problem can be to find the best of them, so instead of writing the same stuff as you can find elsewhere, I will make a small collection of sites, where you will have a good chance to either troubleshoot your problem or find the information you need. As always I will be happy to hear from you if you find information I have missed, look at my profile page for my email adress..

Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting problems with hardware, an operating system or other software, can be a painfull activity if the user looses track of the things. So the same rules counts here as if you are going to troubleshoot your car. First of all, if the solution you thought would work out failed, redo whatever you have done. To do that, remember every new step you take. If you feel that you loose track of the situation, stop for a while, make a cup of coffee, go for a walk - and do NOT loose your temper. Even it might feel wonderfull at the moment, no computer will ever be fixed by hammers, fists of by falling out from any floor in any house.

I thing the best place to go for a specific solution is Google, if you do a good and narrow search on the problem of any error message you might get, Google often finds the direct way to the solution. If you find some tips in a forum post, remember to read the rest of the threat, to see if the tip actually did help the user...

Here are some sites that might help you too. Especially on Kelly's Korner I have usually luck with finding solutions when nothing seems to work.
