As I wrote in the last post I got a visit from my friend Jette from Denmark. We travelled along the Algarve Coast together, with some small trips up in Portugal. We spend 16 days together, I picked her up in Faro Airport and we drove straight to Lagos. We were ment to stay the whole time at a hostel in Lagos, but the cheap price I guess was too cheap. The conditions were simply too lousy, kitchen dirty, a lot of stuff not working. We stayed one week there, and I think that was enough for both of us to explore Lagos, the coasts and the old town. As for me, I spend one week there earlier, before I went to the workaway place 250 km north of the coast.
After Lagos we booked an apartment in Portimao for 3 days. We found that a simple search on hotels.com gave us hits on better places to something near the price for the hostel, properly because it’s out of season. Portimao is very touristic, but we enjoyed the good weather and drove some trips out from there.
Pics from Portimao:
On the trip we looked for the next place to stay, but did not find any. So we left Portimao and drove to Albufeira, to look at some addresses we found on the Internet. The first place was a very small apartment in the most ugly touristic place in the east of Albufeira, though we were tempted to take it for a few days, not having to drive more around, we were very happy that we skipped it! We had another address written down and found the place in the vest and old part of Albufeira. And for the same price we now booked an apartment with full kitchen, living room, sleeping room and a big terasse with a beautiful view over the ocean and coastline. And almost no hotels in a skyline to destroy the view!!
Beside that it’s clean and very friendly service and owners. !!Here is a few more images from Albufeira:
We stayed a week until Jette was going for her flight in Faro. During the week we walked the beaches and the old town, and took some cartrips up in the country, visiting the marked in Loulé, the springs and beautiful old town in Alte, Silvs and the dam and glorious nature around it…
So the last week I have spend in Spain, in a nice town by the coast called Almunecar. Found a cheap hostel on booking.com and chose it because it was Called San Sebastian – as the town on Gomera that I am on my way to now. And happy that I only booked for 2 days, since the owner was an old angry lady sitting in what was supposed to be the relaxing area for guests looking pissed and answering unfriendly on any question. No service at all. Lucky for me I went to a restaurent owned by a Swedish lady, Sabina, who is familiar with an owner of a hotel on the promenade, 50 meters from the sea. 5 minutes later I had a room for the ½ price, which made me stay and enjoy Almunecar until today.
Some pics from the last week:
I left Almunecar this morning and drove the 500 km. to Madrid through the Sierra Nevada mountains and north. I have booked a garage for my car the next month and as writing this I,m at the airport waiting for a plane to Tenerife, where I catch a ferry to LaGomera tomorrow. I have used my 30 minutes of free wifi, so I post this when arriving on Tenerife….
….. And now on Tenerife and have to run for the ferry to Gomera, so just a few minutes to upload from a café…..
More to come 🙂
